From 2011 to 2018, the Chamber's CSR committee supported 17 charity organisations and its projects.

British Chamber Shanghai Centenary CSR Project - Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes LogoA CSR initiative designed to test and correct the eyesight of children in Anhui Province so they can access brighter futures. Since October 2014, with the support of volunteers from 20 members companies, we have visited 36 schools, tested the eyesight of over 11,000 children and teachers, and donated over 2,300 pairs of glasses.

2018

2018's Annual Ball supported: 

  • Shanghai Young Bakers to purchase eight industrial mixers
  • HandsOn Shanghai for beach clean-up event transportation

2017

2017's Annual Ball supported:

  • Bo Ai Children’s Rehabilitation Centre to purchase a speech therapy machine for children with developmental delay
  • Children’s University to help fund to their innovative 'Passport to Learning' which encourages children from the age of 5 to try new learning experiences in and outside of school

         

2017's St. Andrew's Ball supported:

  • Home Sweet Home Shanghai to purchase a new embroidery machine, enable HSH to produce more items for their customers therefore making HSH more sustainable

2016

2016's Annual Ball supported: 

  • CereCare Wellness Centre for Children to finance a new CereCare IT system (desktop PCs, server, PC accessories) and video cameras for record keeping, alongside other organisational and educational purposes

  • Lixin Charity Association to support schools in Lixin to buy new tables, chairs, teaching tables and blackboards to help improve the students’ learning environment

2015's Centenary Ball supported: 

  • Bright Eyes to support eye testing and provide corrective eye glasses to young children with impaired vision in Lixin County, Anhui Province

2014's Annual Ball supported: 

  • CereCare Wellness Centre for Children to build a stair chair lift at CereCare to relieve the heavy burden of carrying children between two floors and improve the childrens’ safety
  • The Library Project to provide libraries and books to rural primary schools located in Anhui Province

  • Heart to Heart Shanghai to to finance the School Library project which supports needy rural schools in east China region with one full library

2013's Burns Night Supper supported:

  • Lixin Charity Association to support schools in Lixin to buy new tables, chairs, teaching tables and blackboards to help improve the students’ learning environment

2013's Annual Ball supported: 

  • CereCare Wellness Centre for Children for staff training in HongKong
  • Shanghai Sunrise to organise workshops for more than 300 students to learn career and life skills and increase their opportunities to find a decent job after graduation
  • Adream Charitable Foundation to build one Adream Centre in rural Nanjing; the Centre includes 10 computers, screens, a projector, a small library, teaching and learning supporting equipment
  • Community Centre Shanghai to buy gift bags for children in a migrant school nearby Shanghai

2012's Burns Night Supper supported:

  • Stepping Stones to purchase studying materials for children in 18 migrant schools and community centres in Shanghai, as well as support teaching materials and transportation to Stepping Stones’ volunteers 
  • A Hand to Hold to offer one-year vitamin supply to Lao Wang’s orphanage in Anhui province, as well as to purchase therapy equipment allowing children with cerebral palsy and physical disabilities to receive comprehensive treatment

2012's Annual Ball supported: 

  • CereCare Wellness Center for Children to equip its training centre with tables, chairs, computers, projectors and copying machine
  • Lifeline Shanghai to give workshops and trainings for free to teenagers, parents and teachers in international schools (topics range from eating disorders, drugs, culture shocks to bullying, dealing with stress and unemployment)
  • Lixin Charity Association to provide new tables and chairs, and refurbishment to their classrooms to ensure safety of the children
  • Mifan Mama to to build a foster home, Shining star, as home to blind orphans to gain confident and learn to live in the world

  • The Library Project to donate two Reading Rooms for the children in Anhui Province

  • Lifeline Shanghai to support YouthLink, a project that offers workshops, a helpline and internships to youths ages 14-18
  • Half the Sky Foundation to to provide orientation and training for 12 caregivers from Anhui and Jiangsu provinces
  • Stepping Stones for teaching supplies, curriculum development, logistics, monitoring and evaluation and capacity building
