Speaker Introduction

Siok Siok Tan [Moderator]

Entrepreneur & Professional Photographer

Tan Siok Siok is a filmmaker, entrepreneur and the author of a book of photos about the Beijing hutongs, Humans of Beijing. She is also the co-creator of the book “Beijing: City in Time” which won the Lu Xun Literary Prize, one of the most prestigious literary prizes in China.  Siok is founder and CEO of Kinetic ONE, a social video platform in China with channels focused on youth culture, fashion and lifestyle as well as food and wine.  She previously worked as an executive producer for Discovery Channel in Asia, and the programs she executive produced, garnered multiple awards and nominations at the Asian TV Awards and Taiwan’s Golden Bell Awards.

Barbara Ex

Co-Founder & CEO, WhiteSpace

Barbara Ex is the Founder and CEO of WhiteSpace, a sharing economy business that offers flexible, affordable short-term meeting and training room space.  WhiteSpace has been profitable since the day it opened its doors and is now scaling to become the complete O2O platform for meeting and training support in China.  Barbara’s lifelong interest has been the application of cutting-edge technology to open new markets, enable strategy and transform existing business models.

Before moving to the start-up world, Barbara served as Executive Director of Business Transformation at Lenovo in Beijing, where she led internal transformation teams which included CRM, Industry 4.0, Supply Chain and Marketing Analytics.  Earlier, she was a Principle Consultant at IBM, where she led many of the first company-wide e-business projects for European MNCs. 

Barbara moved to China in 2005 and has almost 15 years of experience working in both multinational and Chinese companies.  She holds an MBA from London Business School and both Bachelor and Masters’ Degrees in Chemical Engineering from MIT. 

Erin Leigh

Co-Founder & COO, Spare Leash

Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Erin graduated from Western Michigan University in 2011 with a Bachelor Degree in Public Relations & Business.  With her sense of adventure and desire to experience the world, Erin decided to move to Shanghai where she still resides.

After a number of diverse Marketing & PR roles, Erin left the corporate world for entrepreneurship and co-founded, Spare Leash, a pet sitting platform/tech Company in 2016.

Lifelong animal lover and avid rescuer, Erin dedicates her free time with multiple non-profit organizations worldwide and currently lives with four Shanghai rescues.
