Mission Statement

As part of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai, the Scottish Committee represents a diverse range of Scottish businesses and organisations based in Shanghai and doing business in China. This focus on Scotland recognises:

  • The strong Scottish business diaspora in Shanghai and benefits of building connections and relationships;
  • The distinctive nature of activities and sectors that Scottish businesses and organisations participate in;
  • The separate Scottish government and other agencies that support and interface with these activities;
  • The benefits of an integrated approach to Scottish activities in China including levering “brand Scotland”. 

Committee Purpose:

  1. CREATE CONNECTIONS - Facilitate connections to build relationships, share ideas, business opportunities, insights and knowledge to mutually benefit members who are Scottish based companies and organisations.
  2. FOSTER LEARNING - Create opportunities for mutual learning and personal development among members through a calendar of learning events.
  3. SOUNDING BOARD - Provide structured sounding board opportunities for Scottish members looking to set up, expand or improve their business in China where they can get fresh perspectives and advice from Scottish peers currently operating in China.
  4. INWARD INVESTMENT - Provide a business focal point  for Chinese companies and organisations looking for advice on how to set up or expand their business in Scotland.   
  5. GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP - Provide a voice for Scottish business community to engage with Scottish government agencies and develop a partnership approach on how best to create value for members and  for Scotland overall.

Burns Night Held to Strengthen ‘Scottish Connections' in Shanghai

The BritCham Shanghai's 2020 event calendar kicked off with a great start on 13 January as the Scottish Focus Group held the Burns Night Scottish Connector with over 60 members and guests present.

Committee Members

The Committee is currently made up of members who have a diverse range of operating experience in China and elsewhere in the sectors that are most important to the Scottish economy. These include Oil, Gas and Renewables, Technology, Education, Engineering, Food and Drink, Professional Services, Textiles, Tourism as well as Scottish Government agencies.
