The NSW Government Trade and Investment Representative Office in China, as the trade and investment promotional organisation operated under NSW Treasury, is seeking a Digital, Media and Marketing Officer, based in Shanghai.

Primary purpose of the role

Based in Shanghai, the position of Digital, Media and Marketing Officer requires an individual who can promote NSW industry capability in China, raise awareness of export opportunities in China to NSW businesses and utilise digital channels to enhance NSW business opportunities.

The position will work closely with the Trade Commissioner and Directors to support the delivery of initiatives that will:

  • Promote NSW industry capability in China
  • Raise awareness of trade opportunities in China to NSW businesses
  • Position NSW as a leading provider of quality education in China

Key accountabilities

  • Establishing NSW Trade and Investment online Social Media presence.
  • Work with the Trade Commissioner and Business Development Managers in China to develop and implement a digitally integrated marketing strategy utilising a range of innovative solutions.
  • Administer the NSW Trade and Investment social media accounts including WeChat (Global NSW and Study NSW accounts), Weibo and other social media platforms as a priority, including content planning and delivery, executing social media programs for NSW Trade and Investment initiatives and campaigns, having conversations and engaging with users, as well as measuring performance and identifying trends and insights.
  • Create, monitor and maintain supplies of marketing collateral for NSW Trade and Investment’s China team, such as the corporate flyer, industry factsheets, folders, videos and promotions.
  • Provide advice on the usage of the Global NSW brand within China.
  • Maintain understanding of branding and advertising policy, templates and systems and provide training to the China team.
  • Keep up to date with marketing practices in China and around the world and leverage opportunities to collaborate with other members of the team.
  • Apply NSW Trade and Investment business practices and maintain accuracy of information in business systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.
  • Contribute to knowledge creation within NSW Trade and Investment, by sharing knowledge and information, and by embracing best practice and development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively within the NSW Trade and Investment network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the NSW Public Service Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles.
  • Support delivery of events both online and offline as required.

Key challenges

  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with a high number of relevant business and government representatives
  • Delivering against objectives via a diverse range of activities with multiple stakeholders, in some instances with short or competing deadlines
  • Promoting NSW comparative advantages to the international business and investment communities within a digital environment
  • Maintaining channels and systems to collect credible market intelligence and analysis in a fast-paced, changing economic environment

Essential requirements

Demonstrated prior experience and proficiency in:

  • Hands-on experience and knowledge of contemporary digital marketing tools including graphic design, printing, copywriting, website and multimedia, traditional and social media, advertising, sponsorship and event management skills.
  • High level of proficiency with social media technology and platforms.
  • Language – high level of proficiency in both local and English languages
  • Commitment to high standards, and to taking the initiative and responsibility for delivering outcomes.
  • Decision-making, influencing and interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated well-developed organisational and project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experienced in briefing and managing suppliers within tight budgets and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working within an environment of minimum supervision, while providing solid support to the team members.
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills in English and Chinese, with good copy-writing skills and ability to adapt content to different platforms.

Desirable requirements

  • Social or digital media management background within branded or agency environment.
  • Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite
